Workshop: Move into DevOps – Experiences from the Real World

Using experience from three successful implementations, you will learn how test teams can be an asset and not a drag as we move into DevOps.
Management wants everyone to move to DevOps now. Testing in DevOps is harder than most organizations think. Many test teams still struggle with Agile, test automation and maintenance. These problems have to be solved. Current solutions include leveraging technology, such as virtualization which many test teams have been slow to adopt.

Using examples from three organizations in various stages of Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing and DevOps We will discuss what worked and what did not, to come up with better practices for the test team activities.

For example, we will walk thru some failures of one team. From naively thinking that automating every manual script is a good thing to not really using Agile principles; the team needed an overhaul. We began with better test design, got rid of old style automation, and defined four sets of automated suites for different purposes, environments and execution times. Very quickly the test team was contributing faster and more useful feedback to the whole dev team.

We will finish by detailing how to jumpstart to your next step and incrementally build to higher levels of continuous testing.
